“How the army as regional development engine, affect the housing market in a development town in Israel: the case of Ir habahadim and Yerucham.”

Principal Investigator 41,000 NIS for 1 year. Funded by Gazit-Glob real-Estate institution.

The research focus on the effects of military base camps on the housing market of the neighboring towns.

“The Challenge of Capital Conversion: How and under what conditions can groups and settlements acquire and trade capital for the enhancement of regional development”. Principal Investigator (in the research team: Prof. Yehuda Kalay, Dr. Menny Malka and Arch. Yuval Yasky). 163,000 NIS for 3 years, Funded by Ministry of Science Technology and Space

This research aim to examine the urban and social effect of the establishment of training camps, via the case of Ir Habahadim in the Negev Intersection . It is basic assumption that the camp is “capital” but we ask: under which conditions peoples and settlement can convert this capital and performed individual and spatial development. The research leans on 3D visualization of space and social reality.

A multidisciplinary, bottom up exploration of current issues in urbanism in Israel in an effort to establish an Israeli school of urbanism that expresses the complexity of the urban situation in the middle east.

Planning, (re)design, and (re)engineering of urban areas to make them less vulnerable and more resilient to security threats.

Research team member (Prof. Mike turner, Department of Architecture Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem as Principal Investigator).  € 460,000 EU funded research project under the Seventh Framework Programme. As a team member, I lead WP1 that mainly deal with the social investigation. The  consortium includes: Research Management AS (RESMAN) from Norway, IT INNOVATION of the University of Southampton, LOUGHBOROUGH University and BIRMINGHAM University from UK, Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) and Bezalel Academy of Art and Design from Israel,
Centre Internacional de Metodes Numerics en Enginyeria (CIMNE), in Spain and the Technical University of Crete (TUC).

A study of a mixed urban environment in the heart of a metropolis – case study of the border street between Bat Yam and Jaffa that embodies an ethnic conflict between Jews and Arabs in light of intensive development.
